Saginaw Valley State University President Eric R. Gilbertson informed SVSU’s Board of Control of his intent to retire from the presidency during the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, June 18.
In accepting Gilbertson’s letter of intent, Board chair Dave Abbs thanked him for his “exemplary service” and said that the Board has been engaged in succession planning for some time.
“In 2008, Eric and the Board agreed that we would proceed with annual renewals of his employment. This has allowed us to plan for today’s announcement and we are prepared to move forward.”
Abbs expects to convene a special meeting of the Board in July to retain a consulting firm to assist with the search process and to appoint a search committee [Resolution to Initiate a Presidential Search Process (9kB)]. Gilbertson will remain on the job until his successor is chosen.
