The nation’s best public college dorms are at Saginaw Valley State University. For the fifth straight year, SVSU residence halls have been named No. 1 among the nation’s four-year public universities on the Niche list of best dorms in America for 2024. The university’s dorms are ranked No. 3 in the nation among all colleges and universities, public and private.

In addition, SVSU was named the No. 1 college campus in Michigan for the fourth straight year.

“I have lived in all SVSU housing options, and I can definitely say that SVSU deserves to be ranked at the top because the dorms are just incomparable,” said Neema Kalinga, an international student from Tanzania majoring in communication. “I love the amount of space you get whether it’s in your individual dorm room or outside the residential hallways. It feels like a hotel.”

Kalinga chose to come to SVSU because of the affordable tuition, especially for international students. In addition to the residence halls, she appreciates SVSU’s campus life.

“I love the campus size and environment,” she said. “There’s always something happening, from Registered Student Organizations to campuswide events. It’s just fun here.”

Each year, Niche ranks colleges in a number of categories. This year, SVSU ranks in the top 10 in Michigan for best student life, top public universities and colleges with no application fee.

Student satisfaction is the most significant factor in Niche’s Best College Dorms ranking. The following factors are considered for ratings: student surveys about campus housing (70%), average housing cost (10%), housing capacity (10%) and housing crime rate (10%). https://www.niche.com/colleges/rankings/methodology/
