SVSU announces 2017 Homecoming king, queen and court
Saginaw Valley State University students elected Mikaela Ashton, a senior management major from Grayling; and Mitchell Kennedy, a senior accounting major from Bad Axe, as the university's 2017 Homecoming queen and king. Ashton and Kennedy were crowned Saturday, Oct. 14 during the halftime festivities at SVSU's football game against Ferris State University.

SVSU alumna takes stage as educator at top children's theatre
Karli Jenkins’ love of theatre began as a youngster attending summer camps at Saginaw Valley State University, where she later completed her degree. Now she is sharing that love with other children at one of the nation’s leading children’s theatre companies.

Congressman Kildee to speak on bipartisanship and civil discourse in SVSU lecture
U.S. Representative Dan Kildee will discuss the state of modern politics during a lecture at Saginaw Valley State University Thursday Oct. 19. He will discuss "Promoting Civil Discourse and Fostering Bipartisanship in Today's Politics" at 7 p.m. in the Malcolm Field Theatre for Performing Arts.

SVSU alumnus and STEM partner honored as Teacher of the Year by Carrollton Public Schools
Craig Coopersmith, a two-time Saginaw Valley State University alumnus and an adjunct instructor of chemistry, has been named Carrollton High School's Teacher of the Year for the 2017-18 school year. Coopersmith will be honored with a plaque as well as funding for classroom supplies.

SVSU students win ‘Battle,’ lift spirits for Saginaw homeless shelter's occupants, director
Saginaw Valley State University students continued their tradition of improving their surrounding community by raising $32,115 in the annual “Battle of the Valleys” fundraising competition. The funds will help the Mustard Seed Shelter double the occupancy of its Saginaw facility that moves women and children from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

A group to believed to be the only "Piano Windtet" of its kind (piano, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn) will perform in concert at Saginaw Valley State University Sunday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall as part of SVSU’s Rhea Miller Concert Series.

SVSU students to raise funds for Saginaw shelter during this year's Battle of the Valleys
Saginaw Valley State University's annual Battle of the Valleys fundraising competition will kick off Sunday, Sept. 24. For the 15th consecutive year, the students of SVSU and Grand Valley State University will go head-to-head to see who can raise the most money for their respective charity partners. The fundraiser concludes Saturday, Sept. 30, when the rival football teams face off at 7 p.m. at GVSU's Lubbers Stadium.

Detroit author wins SVSU literature award
Saginaw Valley State University has awarded the 2017-18 Stuart D. and Vernice M. Gross Award for Literature to author Drew Philp for his book, "A $500 House in Detroit: Rebuilding an Abandoned Home and an American City. The award is part of SVSU’s community-minded commitment to recognize exceptional writing within Michigan.

SVSU first in the nation to offer students Healthcare Financial Professional Certification
Saginaw Valley State University has become the first university in the nation to offer the Certified Healthcare Financial Professional credential when school leaders incorporate this certification into the curriculum this fall. The certification is available to those studying in SVSU's Master of Science in Health Administration and Leadership program.

SVSU students to help homeless women and children through 2017 Battle of the Valleys
Saginaw Valley State University students will direct their passion for supporting the community by raising funds for an organization that helps homeless women with children during the 15th annual “Battle of the Valleys” fundraising competition. SVSU students will raise funds for The Mustard Seed when they compete against their rivals from Grand Valley State University during the week-long challenge this coming fall.
