Outdoor Adventures

Take in the wilderness and adventure on one of our trips. From a day on the slopes or a weekend on the trails; connect with nature and new friends. Unplug and let us take care of the details.

 

Depart: Friday, September 27 @ 9:00am 
Return: Sunday, September 29 @ 10:30am

Join in an Outdoor Adventure to explore the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore area. This trip will feature a kayak or paddle board down the Platte River and hiking in the Sleeping Bear Dunes Park.

Itinerary

Day 1
Depart SVSU
Paddle the Platte River
Relax and hike the shoreline of Lake Michigan
Set up camp at the Platte River Campground
Day 2
Hike and explore Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and adjacent areas

Day 3
Return to Campus!

Food & Beverage
Day 1
Lunch – Cherry Hut (at your own expense)
Dinner – Hot dogs, brats, chips (vegetarian option available upon request)

Day 2

Breakfast – Granola bars and snack bars
Lunch – Cold Cut Sandwiches
Dinner – Mountain House Freeze Dried Meals

Day 3

Breakfast – Granola bars and snack bars

Please bring refillable water bottles to use total minimum 2 L. Feel free to bring any snacks or other items you wish. Backpacking is a strenuous activity. You will be burning many calories that will need to be replenished! If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, please let us know at registration in order to make accommodations.

1 full change of clothes to keep in the car for post hiking! 
1-2 pair athletic pants/synthetic hiking pants
1 pair of shorts
1-2 synthetic/athletic shirts (cotton is not good!)
1 rain jacket
1 long sleeve for at night
1 long/warm pair of sleep pants
2-3 pairs of thick socks
2-3 pair of undergarments
1 pair durable hiking boots
1 pair of sandals or camp shoes

*Available for rental from Campus Recreation. Rental equipment needed to participate on trips with Campus Recreation is provided for at no cost.

Keep in mind that what you bring on the trip will need to fit in 35-65 L backpack. You are responsible for carrying your belongings. Ounces add up to pounds!
