To apply, please carefully review the information about the Institute presented on this website, so that you’re prepared to speak in your application materials about your interest in the topic.  Click here to review the NEH participant eligibility criteria.

The application consists of two parts:

  • Complete the online application form by visiting this link.
    • Create an account by clicking the Register button under the login for other users section. Then input your name and email address and click Create Account. You must confirm your account via an email notification sent to that email address. You will use this email address and the password you set to access the site.   For any questions related to creating an account or using the system to apply, reach out to Melissa Woodward, or (989) 964-7488.
  • Submit a current resume/CV.

The deadline to submit applications is March 3, 2023 (by 11:59 PM EST)

What happens after I apply?

Participants are selected by a committee, which consists of the Project Directors, and the K-12 Institute Leader. They will evaluate all complete applications to select 25 participants and to identify alternates.

You will be notified of acceptance on April 3, 2023.

You will need to accept for decline your offer by April 14, 2023.

Please Note: All applicants should be aware that once they have accepted an offer to attend any NEH Summer Program (Seminar, Institute, or Landmark), they may not accept an additional offer or withdraw in order to accept a different offer.
