Genetic Studies

This study is conducted by Professor of Biology, Dr. David Stanton. Dr. Stanton also oversees genetic studies in zebra mussels and the invasive plant Phragmites.  DNA fingerprinting of walleye will supply genetic markers that will allow the assessment of genetic diversity and population substructure. This information can be used in management decisions regarding stocking programs, as well as, decisions regarding damming of rivers and the construction of fish ladders. SVSU Biologist, Amanda Ross also works with Phragmites
