SVSU entrance gate in the fall

Updated SVSU mask guidance

June 22, 2021

Dear campus community,

With statewide COVID-19 restrictions set to expire and case counts and positivity rates in rapid decline, we are adapting our policies at SVSU.

Starting Wednesday, June 23, we will not require masks to be worn indoors. However, we strongly recommend those who are unvaccinated to continue to wear masks indoors to protect their health and the health of the campus community. We also strongly encourage members of the campus community to get vaccinated, as this is the most effective way to minimize the impact of COVID-19.

However, we will continue to require masks in classrooms and labs for the remainder of the spring term to continue the learning environment that has been in place. The spring term concludes this Saturday, June 26.

Beginning next Monday, June 28, masks will not be required in classrooms and labs, and all indoor capacity restrictions will be lifted.

Several important health and safety protocols will continue, including:

  • Use of the Campus Clear app as a daily health screening tool
  • Our SVSU contact tracing team
  • Hand sanitizing stations across campus
  • The NEST information line (989-964-2110)
  • Covenant Care Connect (previously known as Covenant hotline)
  • On-campus testing for COVID-19
  • Enhanced cleaning and ventilation procedures

We understand some individuals may be fully vaccinated and still uncomfortable in certain settings. In those situations, individuals may choose to wear a mask for additional protection.

We have had no reported cases of COVID-19 among our campus community during the month of June. I want to thank everyone who has worked so diligently to implement and follow our NEST guidelines over the past 15 months. We have done an admirable job of caring about one another’s health and well-being; that will continue because that is who we are.
