On-Campus and Off-Campus Housing for International Students
At SVSU, on-campus housing is optional for international students, but there are many reasons to live on-campus, including:
- Fully-furnished apartments;
- Being close to classes, campus dining, fitness center, library, tutoring, extracurricular activities, meetings and much more.
- All utilities included in one bill: electricity, water, heat, cable (TV) and internet.
Costs. The housing and meal plan rates are published on the Housing Office website. The “Efficiency” units are the least expensive because they have shared bedrooms.
Contract. Students who wish to live on-campus are advised to submit the housing contract early to secure a room assignment. Keep in mind that the housing contract is binding; by submitting the contract, you are committing to living on-campus for the duration of the contract. A $200 pre-payment fee must be made when the contract is submitted.
SVSU cannot assist students in finding off-campus housing.
Please note that many of the off-campus apartments are not within walking distance of campus.
For this reason, many students choose to live on-campus for their first year, then move off-campus after the first year, once they have arranged a transportation solution, i.e., car-pooling or personal vehicle.
The STARS bus service provides transportation to and from campus on “Route 9”, which passes through the Bay Road, Fashion Square and Tittabawassee areas.
