Cost of Attendance
SVSU offers the most competitive tuition rate of Michigan's 15 public state universities.
The Cost of Attendance below serves as a guide when estimating the costs of specified programs at Saginaw Valley State University. These figures are based on normal charges incurred by most students; however individual charges may vary based on the student's choice of housing, meal plan, class type, total credits enrolled, and other miscellaneous items.

*Exact Tuition and Fees for 2023-24 can be viewed here. The upcoming academic year tuition rates are set by the Board of Control in July. The above estimate of Tuition and Fees is based on 28 credits per year (14 credits in fall, 14 in winter). To minimize semester costs, international students can take 12 credits per semester.
**International students are not required to live on-campus, although it is recommended for the first year. Most on-campus housing units have kitchens, enabling students to cook their own food. Therefore, it is possible for students to live on-campus without purchasing a meal plan. Housing and meal plan rates can be viewed here.
***All international students must have health insurance during their studies in the USA. If students have their own health insurance which is deemed to be as good or better than the university health insurance, then the student may be excluded from the university health insurance. For more information about health insurance, please contact Dr. Pat Shelley.
****Students may be able to reduce the cost of books by purchasing used books or renting. This is a conservative cost estimate that assumes that students will purchase new books.
