Alex's desire to build (or in some cases, rebuild) a car from pieces started with the restoration of a 1970 Chevy Chevelle. When Alex learned majoring in mechanical engineering could help him design the car for the Cardinal Formula Racing Team, he was "hooked." When a motorcycle crash forced doctors to amputate his leg below is knee, this tough-minded student was already focused on driving again and building race cars. Through the real-world racing experience and an internship with Nexteer, Alex steered himself into a full time position with the company.
