Landon Zwerk has always wanted to take over his family farm in Vassar one day. However, he and his father knew that running a business comes with a unique set of challenges. To help achieve his goal of becoming the fourth generation in his family to manage the company, he decided to earn a bachelor's degree in business management at SVSU. After graduating in May 2016, Zwerk was more than equipped to one day manage the inner-workings of his family's establishment.
Leaders in business must have a broad knowledge of all aspects of operations, from finance to marketing to operations management. Management majors achieve this with a business core of 50 credits and then focus on topics of human resource management and organizational behavior. The program develops the students' ability to bring solutions to issues in human resource management, and understanding of current laws and policies, and the use of analytical techniques to increase operational effectiveness. Internships, facility tours, business competitions and networking events with regional professionals - at SVSU, your education extends far beyond the classroom. Students who choose a management major gain access to business fraternities, honor societies and professional associations that start connecting them to potential employers and community leaders before they graduate.
With special programs such as the Cardinal Business Edge and the Vitito Global Leadership Institute for students interested in the world of business, you'll receive opportunities at SVSU you can't find anywhere else.
With so many internship and co-op opportunities available at influential, name-brand businesses such as Quicken Loans, a powerhouse in downtown Detroit; Nexteer Automotive, a global automotive parts supplier headquartered mere minutes from SVSU's campus; Aramark Corporation, a national supplier of food service, facilities and uniform services; and Duro-Last Roofing, a Saginaw-based commercial roofing company with clients across the world, it's no wonder SVSU students are offered an advantage in securing full-time employment after graduation with those same employers. Alumni are leading successful careers in positions such as management analysis, private business management, customer service management, branch management and human resource management.
