Course of Study

SVSU’s Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) builds off a solid business core of 50 credit hours that equip you to enter the world of business in virtually any way you like. From there, courses build on the fundamentals such as communication, investment analysis, financial policy, international finance as well as the principles and strategies of financial risks. At SVSU, you will have the unique opportunity to manage actual investment portfolios, gaining practical knowledge that breaks you out of the classroom and into the real world.

Meet a Cardinal

Entering college for the first time, Nicholas Duncan was apprehensive to ask questions in class or meet with his professors outside of the classroom. However, as he worked towards his finance degree at SVSU, he learned just how approachable his professors were and the importance of asking for help. This knowledge stayed with him even after his graduation in May 2017. As an IT controller at the automotive company Faurecia, Duncan has gained the confidence to seek guidance when needed. He credits the personalized atmosphere of SVSU as the catalyst for this growth.

At SVSU, we know one of life’s greatest teachers is experience. That’s why we pair your classroom education with a range of internships at well-regarded and highly competitive companies. As a Cardinal, we support every student in finding the profession and business sector that fit you best. Students in the College of Business & Management have interned for the DEA, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, The Dow Chemical Company, Yeo & Yeo, Inc., Plante Moran, and more. And wherever you choose to intern, we’ll be here to help you soar.

Student Opportunities

SVSU helps you discover the applications of finance in the global market with programs such as our Vitito Fellowship, which offers students a more nuanced and holistic understanding of internationally headquartered corporations. In addition, the College of Business & Management connects finance students with distinguished academic fraternities, Honors societies, academically enriching programs, student leadership organizations and professional networking groups where you can apply what you’re learning to the real world. Here, your opportunities for growth span the limits of your own drive and imagination.

Job Opportunities

When it comes to the world of finance, the skills you acquire at SVSU can take you anywhere, including the FDIC, like 2016 alumnus Nicole Calandrino. From consulting to money management, real estate, financial planning and the world of investments, careers in finance offer exciting possibilities for you to pursue—here in Michigan or around the world. And business graduates at SVSU have a high placement rate, so you can feel confident that the degree you earn here will work hard for you long after you graduate.
