Accounting

SVSU's accounting degree offers experience and credentials sought by firms at both the regional and international levels. SVSU students graduating from this program are recruited for top positions in global corporations, including those with local roots. With an experienced and dedicated faculty, the SVSU accounting department is equipped to empower its students as professionals even before they earn their degrees. Many students, through internship and co-op positions, impress employers enough that those same students are offered jobs months in advance of graduation.

Meet A Cardinal

Scott Stanford was well prepared for his career after earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting. As a college athlete, he learned time management early, leading him to excel in more ways than one. After his internship at Plante Moran, where he displayed his accounting know-how,  he was offered a full-time position before he even graduated.

Course of Study

The Accounting program empowers students to think critically and creatively, emphasizes the importance of communication and leadership, and instills a knowledge of business methodologies and data analysis critically to supporting business management work. Because SVSU averages 23 students-per-classroom, faculty are able to work closely with students. This 1-on-1 interaction allows faculty to guide students in overcoming their weaknesses while identifying - and enriching - their strengths.

Student Opportunities

Internships, firm and corporate tours, trips to the New York Stock Exchange and networking events with regional professionals - at SVSU, your education extends far beyond the classroom. Students who choose an accounting major gain access to business fraternities, honor societies and professional associations that start connecting them to potential employers and contacts before they graduate.

With special programs such as the Cardinal Business Edge and the Vitito Global Leadership Institute for students interested in the world of business, you'll receive opportunities at SVSU you can't find anywhere else.

Career Options

Graduates of the accounting program earn their degree at SVSU so they enter the job market with the knowledge and experience necessary to take them anywhere. With 95 percent placement of our graduates (according to a recent graduate survey), Cardinals find themselves soaring all over the nation. Our accounting graduates go on to serve in banking, nonprofit marketing, global sourcing, procurement and more. The opportunities are limitless.
