Elementary ACR Professional Studies Courses
Elementary Courses (30 cr)
This program requires a full year of residency/student teaching in a K-8 classroom. Teacher candidates placed in a content-specific residency are required to complete a minimum number of field hours per core subject (i. e., Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies).
Fall (16 credits; prerequisite is admission to the Elementary ACR Program)
- TE 411R Teaching Elementary Reading Part 1 (4 credits)
- TE 415R Teaching Elementary Social Studies (3 credits)
- TE 416R Diverse Learning Environments (3 credits)
- TE 417R Seminar 2 for Elementary ACR (1 credit)
- TE 494R Seminar 1 for Elementary ACR (1 credit)
- TE 497R Elementary ACR Residency 1 (4 credits)
Winter (14 credits, prerequisite is successful completion of TE 411R, TE417R, and TE 497R)
- TE 412R Teaching Elementary Reading Part 2 (2 credits)
- TE 413R Teaching Elementary Mathematics (3 credits)
- TE 414R Teaching Elementary Science (3 credits)
- TE 418R Seminar 3 for Elementary ACR (1 credit)
- TE 498R Elementary ACR Residency 2 (5 credits)
Secondary Education Courses (20-29 cr)
The College of Education creates the schedule of ARC courses offered each semester to ensure that accelerated certification candidates can complete the required course work in one year. Candidates do not create their own schedules. These courses are taken concurrently with a full year of student teaching or residency in a middle or high school classroom.

- TEMS 301 - Community Culture & Change 3 cr
- TEMS 302 - General Methods of Teaching in Secondary 3 cr
- TEMS 312 - Tch Read Content Area Sec-Midl 3 cr
Choose one of the following methods courses:
- TEMS 311 - Teaching Science in Mid/Sec Schools 3 cr
- TEMS 313 - Methods of Teaching: Special Subjects 3 cr
- TEMS 314 - Methods of Teaching Social Studies 3 cr
- TEMS 315 - Methods of Teaching Mathematics 3 cr
- TEMS 317 - Methods: Teaching English Language Arts 3 cr
In addition, all students take the following:
- TEMS 412 - Seminar in Secondary Teaching 2 cr
- TEMS 422 - Secondary Student Teaching 3-12 cr
