Quarantine Guidelines for Residential Students Who Have Had Significant Exposure to COVID-19

  1. If you have had significant exposure to someone with COVID-19, call the Covenant Health Hotline: (989-583-3568 or 989-583-3135, Press 1) right away for further instructions.
    a. Significant exposure refers to being within 6 ft. of someone with COVID-19, with or without a face covering, for 15 minutes or longer over the course of a 24 hour period.
  2. Do not attend class in person. Notify your professors that you will be in quarantine. You must also notify your employers both on or off campus.
  3. Residential Life staff will contact you to review your Advanced Plan, which may involve either quarantining on campus or returning to your permanent residence depending on various factors that Residential Life staff will discuss with you.
  4. If you return to your permanent residence, do so by yourself if possible or wear a mask for the duration of the trip.
  5. If you are able to quarantine in your regular housing unit, isolate in your bedroom, stay away from others including your roommates, and use a separate bathroom if possible. Sanitize commonly-touched surfaces frequently.
  6. If the severity of your exposure requires that you be isolated away from others, you will be temporarily assigned to an isolation unit until you are cleared to exit isolation. You will turn in your normally-assigned room key during this period of time.
  7. Residential Life staff will unlock your temporary isolation unit and observe your entry into the unit. They will also provide a supply pack that will include:
    a. Linen pack
    b. Toilet paper
    c. Cleaning supplies
    d. Basic toiletries, light snacks
    e. Dining Services menu
  8. Arrangements will be made for mail delivery, trash removal, and meal and supply delivery.
  9. A trained SVSU contact tracer will check in with you daily during quarantine.
  10. Your isolation will end when all of the following conditions have been met and with clearance from SVSU Contact Tracers:
    a. It has been 10 days since the date of exposure or since the onset of symptoms if symptoms develop.
    b. You have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
    c. Other symptoms have subsided (cough, shortness of breath, vomiting/diarrhea, etc.).
  11. You will receive a letter from Residential Life regarding the Student Code of Conduct and outlining the serious consequences of violating quarantine.
  12. When quarantine is complete, you will return to your original housing assignment and/or face-to-face activities as normal.

During your entire quarantine period, you must not to leave your quarantine unit.

You must monitor your symptoms while in quarantine and notify and the Covenant Health Hotline if symptoms develop or worsen. Call 9-1-1 in a health emergency.
