Statement of Intent

Applicants must include a statement of professional interest and related goals in public health not to exceed 1000 words in length. This statement of professional interest must include the following:

  • Preparation and background for the MPH program
  • Career goals in public health
  • Basic reasons for choosing a career in public health
  • Special qualities and talents that would enhance success in your public health career
  • Research interests
  • Professional interests
  • Reasons for applying to Saginaw Valley State University‚Äôs MPH program



In the application, you will need to identify your previous institutions attended. You will also need to contact those institutions and request official copies of your transcripts to be sent to Saginaw Valley State University. 

All transcripts must be sent from university to university. For expedited processing, please select e-delivery and when possible send them to our Grad Admissions office:

SVSU alumni do not need to request official transcripts as they will already be part of your student record. 



Before you submit your application, you will be prompted to add recommendation providers. You will be asked to provide the contact information for each of your one (1) recommender.  Upon receiving this information, Graduate Admissions will email your recommendation providers with an online recommendation form that can be completed and submitted electronically.  

This recommendation requirement is WAIVED for graduates of SVSU's undergraduate Public Health program. 




SVSU's MPH offers admission each Fall semester.  

  • Make the appropriate selections for the application: 
    • Graduate
    • Domestic or International
    • MPH
    • Fall 2021 


Each year the MPH's application will open on November 1 and close the following August 1, with the new class beginning coursework in the Fall semester.


Application System

If you are new to SVSU or haven't applied since 2018, please complete the option to create your account. 

  • Our application system allows you to log in and out of your application saving your progress along the way so you can thoughtfully submit your application when you're ready.  After your application's submission, you will also use the system to upload any required documents and check on the status of your recommendations.  After decisions are available, you'll also use this portal to access your admission letter. 

If you have recently applied to SVSU (since August 2018), please log in as an existing user.  If you don't remember your login credentials, select Forgot Username/Password to continue.  Please note that your application credentials are not tied to the SVSU system and would remain the unique username/password used in your previous application.

  • Any active applications will be stored in your account. Be sure when you log in to interact with the appropriate application.


Application Submission

  • When you go to submit your application, you'll be prompted to add your recommendation providers' contact information.  Your application will not be submitted until these are successfully added.

  • Log in to the Self-Service Center to upload all additional requirements. SVSU students do not need to request official SVSU transcripts; this will be automatically processed if SVSU is listed as an institution attended in the application.


Application forms and all application requirements must be submitted in order for the application to be reviewed for admission.

The online application for the 2021 cohort will open November 1, 2020

Application forms must be submitted by August 1, 2021.  

All outstanding supplemental documents (uploads, transcripts, and recommendations) must be received in order to be reviewed for admission.


Admission notifications will be provided to applicants via email.  SVSU will send these notifications to the applicant's email address used to submit the application.
