This is a list of prohibited and monitored items that are not allowed in campus housing.

Prohibited Items in Residential Facilities

Item Description: Glow-in-the-dark stars, anything used to affix items to walls, 3M products, etc.

Item Description: Hot plates, George Foreman grills, toaster ovens

Item Description: Melted wax, candles, Scentsy, etc.

Item Description: Dartboards that require metal or plastic-tipped darts. Magnetic tip darts and dartboards are permitted.

Item Description: Liquid gasoline for vehicles and propane for grilling is permitted ONLY if properly stored outdoors.

Item Description: Charcoal grills are prohibited. Gas grills are permitted, however, grills and propane must be properly stored outdoors.

Item Description: Constructed loft to raise bed. A limited number of University-approved loft kits are available to residents (pending room style).

Item Description:  Pets, with the exception of some fish, are not allowed in any university building, with the exception of those trained to assist individuals with documented disabilities (or documented and approved therapy animals). Fish tanks 10 gallons or less with non-carnivorous fish or other legless aquatic animals are permitted.

Item Description: Tobacco product use in housing facilities is prohibited, which includes electronic cigarettes and hookahs.

Item Description: Swords, guns, bow and arrows, anything that shoots a projectile. Refer to SVSU Weapons Policy. All residents must check their weapons with the University Police for storage services.

Monitored Items

Item Description: Alcohol and empty alcoholic beverage containers.  Refer to the Alcohol and Other Drugs policy.  You must have a permit to have alcohol in your room.

Item Description: Griddles, curling irons, deep fryers, toasters, etc. 

Our Rationale: Unplugging or leaving unattended, grease disposal, safety when operating, etc.
