Each complex has designated professional and para-professional live-in-staff, who make up the Residential Life team. The most important role of the Residential Life team is to promote a sense of belonging and community in housing facilities.
Resident Directors are full-time professional members of the university staff. A Resident Director is on duty at all times, twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. The Resident Directors supervise their Resident Assistant staff. Each Resident Director is assigned to one of the following SVSU residential communities: First Year Suites, MJ Brandimore House, Living Center South, Living Center Southwest, University Village West or the Pine Grove Community.
Resident Assistants (RA) are part-time, student employees who live in assigned areas of SVSU housing. The role of the RA is to bring residents together, communicate a sense of outreach in order to address the needs of residents and promote accountability among residents for their participation and care for the community. Events and programs are sponsored by the RA during the year and are open to all individuals in their house, floor or area. The RA is supervised by the Resident Director.
