2020 Fall Move-Out Information

The university is moving to remote instruction beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020. Only residents who complete a proper check-out and return their key by 4:00 pm, Wednesday, November 25 will be eligible to receive a refund for the final three weeks of the fall semester. Residents who choose to check out after November 25 will not be eligible to receive a refund for the final three weeks of the fall semester.

December 2020/Winter Break: First year students residing in FYS, MJBH, LCSW, and LCS are not allowed to stay during winter break per the terms of the housing contract and will need to complete a proper checkout with their RA.  Upperclassmen residents in LCS, UV, and PG may stay during the semester break.

CHECKOUT PROCEDURES

  • If you are planning to check out (not mandatory) from housing for a refund [see table below], you must schedule a check out with an RA, at least 48 hours in advance, and be checked out by Wednesday,   November 25th by 4:00pm. 
  • Declining Balance Dollars carry over to winter semester and are not eligible for refund.
  • Block and Commuter meals carry over to winter semester and are not eligible for refund.
  • Checkouts will begin on Monday, November 16th and end on Wednesday, November 25th at 4:00PM.
  • Personal belongings can be left in rooms during this time, but you are strongly encouraged to take home any valuables. The University is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property.
  • Residence Halls will re-open Friday, January 8, 2020 at 8:00am. Information for winter check in will be released before the first year areas re-open. Please take everything you need with you over the break; keys will be collected at the time you check out so re-entry to your room will not be permitted.   
  • Residents can have 2 guests assist you move out as long as they pass their health screen on the CampusClear App.

Students who are returning to Campus for winter 2021:

  • You MUST check out with an R.A. who will inspect your room for cleanliness and collect your room key. It is important that you make an appointment with your R.A. at least 48 hours in advance of when you need to check out.  Failure to do a proper check-out may result in a minimum $100 improper check-out fine.
  • The room/suite must meet Health & Safety standards.  If you have a roommate who will not be returning next semester, be sure to leave appropriate space.  You will likely be receiving a new roommate. 
  • Mail and package deliveries will continue as normal through the last day campus is open Fall semester (December 23, 2020) and resume when campus re-opens after Winter break (January 4, 2020). We highly encourage students to cease all deliveries to campus if they are intending to check out before Thanksgiving. Mail forwarding will not be an option, however students can come to the Housing office during normal business hours to retrieve or wait until they return in January. All mail will be held until two weeks after Winter move in.
  • The university encourages you to turn down the heat to 60 and make sure your windows are closed
  • Damages: Rooms may be inspected over the break for damages and repaired if necessary.
  • Preventative Maintenance:  Campus Facilities staff may be entering for maintenance of facility items.
  • Please check your email frequently and www.svsu.edu/nestplan for all future updates.
  • Meal Plan Changes: You may make changes to your meal plan for the Winter 2021 from now until Friday, January 15th by clicking the following link Meal Plan Change
  • Holiday Decorations: All holiday decorations must be taken down before you leave for break.  Live trees are not permitted in on-campus housing.  Also, please make sure that all windows are closed and locked.
  • Residents can have 2 guests assist you move out as long as they pass their health screen on the CampusClear App.

Students who have been officially released from the housing contract and will not be returning for the winter semester:

  • Be sure you have submitted a contract release request and have been granted a release by Housing Operations. If you are not officially released, you will be charged the entire contracted amount.
  • You MUST check out with an R.A. who will inspect your room for cleanliness.  It is important that you make an appointment with your R.A. at least 48 hours in advance of when you need to check out.  Failure to do a proper check-out can result in a minimum $100 improper check-out fine.
  • The room/suite must meet Health & Safety standards and all belongings must be removed before your check-out time.
  • If you are concerned about specific damages to your room, it is advisable to have your other roommates available at your check-out.  Damages to the room are your responsibility.  Any damages assessed will be charged to the responsible resident(s).
  • Remember to change your address so your packages and mail are not sent to campus.
  • Important: Before you leave campus, you must check-out with your R.A. or another member of the Residential Life staff.  You will not be allowed to check out until you pass a room cleanliness inspection!
  • Residents can have 2 guests assist you move out as long as they pass their health screen on the CampusClear App.

CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES

First Year Suites, MJB House and Living Centers

  • All FYS, MJB House, LCS and LCSW residents must vacate their rooms within 24 hours of their last exam or by Friday, December 18th by 4:00pm (whichever occurs earlier).
  • Belongings can be left in rooms during this time, but you are strongly encouraged to take home any valuables. The University is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property.
  • Residence Halls will re-open Friday, January 8, 2020 at 8:00am.  Please take everything you need with you over the semester break; card access will be modified and will not allow for re-entry. 
  • Students who officially check out and need to return to the room will be charged a minimum of $25.00. EXCEPTIONS for checking out must be approved no later than Wednesday, November 27th.
  • For a Friday, December 18th, check-out after 4:00pm; contact Housing Operations, Curtiss 118 for approval by emailing housing@svsu.edu.

Returning to Campus for winter 2021:

  • You MUST check out with an R.A. who will inspect your room for cleanliness.  It is important that you make an appointment with your R.A. at least 48 hours in advance of when you need to check out.  Failure to do a proper check-out can result in a minimum $100 improper check-out fine.
  • The room/suite must meet Health & Safety standards.  If you have a roommate who will not be not be returning next semester, be sure to leave appropriate space.  You will likely be receiving a new roommate. 
  • You do not need to turn in your key.  Remember to bring your key back after break.  The lost key charge is $50.

Students who have been officially released from the housing contract, and will not be returning for the winter semester:

The Housing Guide to Winter Break

University Village, Pine Grove and Living center south upperclassmen

  • You may stay in your unit over the semester break.  You do not need to check out or check in.
  • The room/suite must meet Health & Safety standards.  If you have a roommate who will not be returning next semester, be sure to leave appropriate space.  You will likely be receiving a new roommate. 
  • Please realize that services at the University are limited. 
  • Mail delivery will still proceed as long as the University is officially open.  Package pick-up will be coordinated during business hours in Housing Operations.
  • Dining Services will be limited over break. 
  • Make sure your roommates know each other’s schedules for safety and security.
  • Duty staff will be available for any on-campus concerns.
  • If you are graduating in December, you must inform the Housing Office at housing@svsu.edu.

PLEASE HELP US CONSERVE ENERGY BY KEEPING WINDOWS CLOSED, TURNING OFF LIGHTS, AND KEEPING THE HEAT LOWER IF YOU ARE AWAY
