SVSU’s Literature program offers a strong foundation in British, American and ethnic literature. In later classes, students have the opportunity to pursue topics in Shakespeare, studies in fiction, and literary studies and theory. Life as a Literature major includes superb in-class instruction and learning essential skills of interpretation by exposing students to new ways of assessing and critiquing literary documents.
Students in the Literature program are thinkers who defy the boundaries of time to explore entire worlds through the magic of books. With faculty members who are active philosophers and intellectuals in their fields, students are able to delve into the history of ideas and literary texts from altogether different cultures. These Literature majors are empowered to develop their own values and become independent, critical scholars through small workshops and engaging curriculum. As their parenting institution, SVSU nurtures students to harness their true potential and helps them to soar within the realm of academia and beyond!
Literature majors participate in capstone experiences focused on their major course of study, conducting research and constructing portfolios.
Students may participate in valuable internships to gain experience.
Renowned poets and fiction writers are brought to campus to share their work and experiences through the Voices in the Valley.
