CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN ON YOUR ADMISSION TO SVSU!
This page is where we welcome all new SVSU international students, known as Cardinals, giving you detailed next steps and connecting you with the people and offices who will assist you in the months leading up to your enrollment. As Cardinals, we take on challenges together, solve problems, and form connections that last a lifetime and span the globe. So go ahead, bookmark this page and start getting to know us. Because we already know: you belong here, and we can't wait to see you next semester.
Congratulations! You’ve been accepted, and you’re ready to join us at SVSU. Your first step is to let us know by "Responding" to your decision letter in our Application portal.
All new international students at SVSU attend orientation. In the week preceding classes, you'll get an introduction to campus, staff and helpful resources you'll use throughout your time at SVSU. Before the week ends, we'll make sure you've got a class schedule and know how to take care of business (payment, access classes, etc.). As a new Cardinal, you have a few different options for paying your orientation fee!
SVSU keeps you connected to everything happening with your financial aid and scholarships, orientation, and class schedule through your official SVSU account. To access your SVSU account you will first need to create a new password using the link below.
TO ACCESS YOUR SVSU EMAIL ACCOUNT FOR THE FIRST TIME, YOU WILL NEED:
Your SVSU Student ID Number: (this is a 7-digit number that starts with a zero)
Your SVSU Username: (usually a combination of your first and last name)
Your SVSU Email Address: (usually your firstname.lastname@example.org)
This can be found in your decision letter through our application portal. Log in with your application credentials here to access it now.
A temporary password has been created for you to activate your account at SVSU using your 7-digit ID number, including the leading "0" + birth date. (Example: 0######MMDDYY).
Once you have created your password you can access all your emails, Canvas (our online learning management system), and take care of business like course registration or making a payment through my.SVSU.edu.
As a newly admitted student to SVSU, we want you to know where to find important information about getting started at SVSU, including how to accept your scholarship and where to find a summary of costs to help you plan for your future semesters! After you've activated your SVSU account, students with scholarships in their decision letter should log in to accept their award!
After you've paid your international student orientation fee, our students looking to study on-campus will be receiving a form called an I-20 which is needed to start the visa process.
After your US government fees have been paid, you'll be able to work with a local US embassy or consulate to schedule a visa interview. A few important details to note before scheduling:
Canadian students do not need to schedule/attend a visa interview. Their I-20 and SEVIS/I-901 receipt will be requested at the time of border crossing.
While living on campus is optional, we welcome you to join a vibrant, comfortable, and safe Cardinal community with award-winning dorms. Rooms are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Ask us about the best time to submit your online housing contract based on your visa timeline!
Our dormitories are apartment-style offering living areas with kitchens, private bathrooms, and fully furnished living spaces. SVSU also offers optional dining plans or declining balance options, allowing students the flexibility to eat from a variety of on-campus dining options or to cook their own meals in their apartment kitchen.
Most students will fly to the US and land at MBS airport here in Saginaw, Michigan.
We can assist you with pickup from MBS any time of the day or night so long as you provide us with your flight details through the pre-arrival form.
If you are driving to SVSU from Canada or elsewhere in the United States, do still notify us of your expected arrival date so we can assist with your on-campus housing key pickup if needed.
New students can arrive in the US no more than 30 days before the start date listed on their I-20.
We'd like you to be as prepared as possible for your newest opportunity at SVSU, so look for invitations to attend weekly webinars in the months leading up to your first semester! So we can be ready for you to join us in person, please share visa updates with us whenever you get them so we can track and plan for your arrival! Finally, in the days leading up to your first class, we'll go through additional details at orientation that will help you successfully navigate your experience at SVSU!
Keeping track of all your college details can be a lot, and you don’t have to do it alone. SVSU has all the links you need as a student in one handy place: my.svsu.edu! During orientation, we'll make sure you have a student schedule, but we're here to help! You can always set up a virtual advising appointment with us as well! Using the links in my.svsu you can take care of business as well - making your payment arrangements!
