Cardinals in Action

Cardinals In Action is a group of first-year students who share a common interest in community service. As a community, we create life-long bonds while learning to examine the meaning of our service. We strive to make service an integrated part of life. CIA is also a great starting point for leadership and social justice opportunities on campus.

CIA is a diverse group of people who have different interests, majors, familiarity with service, and much more. Our dynamic community makes CIA unique to the SVSU experience and encourages students to develop personal and organizational ties that will last throughout their years at SVSU, and beyond.

Benefits of the CIA:

  • Organized service projects with a dedication to learning and growth through reflection
  • Opportunity to make friends with shared interests and goals
  • Early move-in for an CIA-only orientation
  • Live in a positive social and academic environment with other CIA students (roommates and neighbors will also be in the CIA Program)
  • Gain increased awareness of social issues faced by local and global communities
  • Monthly social functions and community building activities
  • Connect with community service organizations and leadership positions on and off campus
  • Develop public speaking skills
