Thomas Hetherman Memorial Scholarship

The Thomas Hetherman Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999 by his widow, Mrs. Lois Hetherman, to honor the memory of her husband and to provide assistance to members of the SVSU golf team.

Thomas J. Hetherman earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and pursued further studies at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Michigan. He served in the United States Air Force and worked in the chemistry field with Hercules Powder Company of Wisconsin. Mr. Hetherman had a long, distinguished history of service to his community.

In 1957, he became executive director and vice president of the United Way of Saginaw County. Over a period of 25 years, Mr. Hetherman raised $43.6 million for the United Way. Two silver trophies were established in his honor. He was a member of the SVSU Cardinal Coaches Corner, Saginaw Club, Rotary Club, Navy League, and Germania Club of Saginaw. Mr. Hetherman passed away in 1995.
