We offer five levels of skills-based, intensive English classes which are designed to prepare students to be successful in undergraduate studies at SVSU.
Levels 1 and 2 are pre-academic foundation courses and are not offered every semester. In Levels 1 and 2, students must take all of the courses in a level and must pass the reading course and at least one other course to move to the next level. At the end of Level 2, eligible students may take ELP placement tests for placement in Levels 3, 4 and 5.
ELP Levels 3, 4 and 5 focus on academic preparations and language skill development. Students must pass a skills course to progress to the skill at the next level. Students who successfully complete Level 5 meet the English language proficiency requirements for undergraduate admission.
We offer one English for Academic Purposes course. Analytical Writing, EAP 078, is designed to address the individual needs of non-native writers and fulfills the requirements of ENGL 080.
