Sleeping Bear Dunes - Paddle & Hike

Cost:  $60.00
Included: Travel, lodging, rentals, most meals
Depart: September 15 @ 9:00 AM
Return:  September 17 @ 3:00 PM

Spend the day paddling and exploring the Platte River within the scenic Sleeping Bear Dunes National Shoreline, enjoy nights by the fire, and the hiking the dunes! No previous experience needed.

If you are driving, please park in R lot, we have overnight parking passes for that lot if needed. Just let us know when you get here and we will provide you a pass. (See campus map in link #2 for directions). Once you are in R lot, make your way to the Campus Recreation Center entrance and bring all of your gear in at this time.

September 15
Depart campus at 9:00 AM from the Campus Recreation Center
Travel to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
Kayak or paddleboard down the Platte River
Explore and relax on the Lake Michigan shoreline
Camp at Platte River Campground
September 16
Travel to the trail head north of Empire, MI
Hike and explore the Dune Hiking Trails (Link #1)
Camp at Platte River Campground

September 17
Pack up camp and arrive back to campus no later than 3:00 PM

Food and Beverage
September 15
Lunch: Roadside stop along the way (Personal expense)
Dinner: Traditional campfire dinner (Hot Dog, brats, potato salad, veggie tray, chips)
September 16
Breakfast: Apples, bananas, oatmeal, yogurt, granola
Lunch: Turkey or ham sandwiches, chips, assorted fruit (boxed lunch
Dinner: Mountain House freeze dried meal- assorted
September 17
Breakfast: Apples, bananas, oatmeal, yogurt, granola
Lunch: Roadside stop along the way (Personal expense)

Please bring a refillable water bottle to use.  Feel free to bring any snacks or other items you wish. If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, please let us know at registration in order to make accommodations.

Packing List
Water bottle, water clothes(swimsuit), towel, hygiene items, sunscreen, flashlight, bug spray, additional clothes, camera, pillow, miscellaneous spending money

*We will provide tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads. Please feel free to bring your own equipment if you’d like.

*Please limit your belongings to one backpack and a bag similar to an airport carry on item.
