Red Pride At 50
We’re celebrating our 50th birthday and all the ways SVSU grads give back to their communities! Our cities, state and nation all benefit from SVSU grads like you from the work you do to the time and money you give to your favorite local causes.
Today we’re asking you to continue the Red Pride tradition of service by giving back to SVSU through our Talent. Opportunity. Promise. campaign. Thousands of Cardinal alums are joining in to help SVSU continue to attract and develop talent and give these students the opportunity to complete their education by increasing our endowed scholarships. Be proud. Be part of Red Pride at 50!
Red Pride Stories
The grandson of Mexican immigrants, Jim grew up in Saginaw and went to work on the line at GM after high school. Factory work wasn’t for him and he took advantage of SVSU’s “Project ’70s” scholarship to work toward a degree in sociology. Graduating in 1984, Jim helped his community as a social worker before looking for ways to earn a better living to support his growing family. Entering the industrial pipe and valve business, he first sold equipment and then started his own distribution business, Michigan Pipe & Valve. Over the years he was able to buy out his partners and recently passed the business on to his kids.
“I owe so much to SVSU. They helped me learn how to learn when I didn’t have those skills. I’m proud to be a graduate of SVSU and to provide a scholarship in my dad’s name.”
