Family Business Management

About 90 percent of all U.S. businesses are family owned or controlled. They play an integral role in building our nation and keeping it strong. Family business face several unique challenges including leadership succession, business continuity, the intermingling of personal, family and business affairs, and family relationship dynamics. 

The concentration in Family Business Management (FBM) is available to students pursuing the BBA Management major. The program targets students whose family own a business; students who may work for a family business someday, such as, key Non-Family Executives; and students who may someday serve as advisors for family businesses, such as, Accountants, Bankers, Insurance Agents, and Bankers. The program provides these audiences with a professional management education that heightens their appreciation for the unique strengths and challenges of family businesses. It prepares students to leverage this understanding to successfully implement practices that drive high performance, shareholder loyalty and healthy family relationships. 

Students who complete the Family Business Management concentration are prepared to act strategically in managing a family firm, launching a new venture, and to move up the ranks of the corporate world.
