Gerontology Minor/Certificate


SVSU's Gerontology Minor focuses on the study of aging. Students learn about healthy aging, chronic illness and long-term care. Opportunities for field placement are available in pscyhology, health sciences, sociology and social work. Students are supported by the faculty of the Department of Health Sciences.

  • A certificate in gerontology is available for non-matriculated students who complete gerontology minor requirements that meet the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) standards.

  • SVSU's Health and Human Services building contains a state-of-the-art Simulation Center.

The Gerontology Minor prepares students to work with the aging population. It covers the lifespan of human development. Field placement helps students find their career in the gerontology field.
