The Tyner Prizes and the Tyner-Roethke Award in Student Poetry recognize the best writing produced in English Department courses over the previous academic year. Three prizes of at least $100 each and a plaque may be awarded in three categories: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Faculty nominated entries must have been written since January 1, 2015, and must have been originally produced for a class in English.
It is customary for fiction writers to submit a single short story and essayists to submit a single essay. Poets, on the other hand, are encouraged to submit a brief collection. No entry, regardless of category, should exceed 25 pages.
A panel of three judges will read anonymous submissions and make determinations. Judges' decisions will be announced at the Writing Awards Reception.
The deadline for all submissions is March 4, 2016.
