Undergraduate and Graduate Student Tutoring

The Writing Center is dedicated to developing the writer, not just improving the writing assignment. If you are an SVSU student and want help with any area of your writing, bring your current draft (or your ideas!) to the Writing Center. (Please note we can work on no more than 15 pages of writing during each tutorial session; we cannot work on Masters thesis or capstone projects with our graduate students).

If you are a graduate student, you can walk into the Center and have a tutorial session with any of our tutors, or you can make an appointment to work online or face-to-face with a tutor trained to work with graduate students To make an appointment to work with a graduate tutor, click on the "Online Tutoring" tab to the left.

We can help you:

  • Brainstorm ideas
  • Understand assignments and plan responses
  • Learn effective organizational techniques
  • Learn to use APA, MLA, and CMS formats
  • Improve your writing and language skills if English is not your native language
  • Identify grammar errors and learn strategies for correcting them
  • Expand your approaches to writing projects inside and outside your major/minor
  • Grow as a writer and critical thinker
