Citation

ACS Format: Electronic References

This information is based on the ACS Style Guide: Effective Communication of Scientific Information, Third Edition,2006.

 

Conventions:

  • Each citation includes the Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index (CASSI) abbreviation of the journal it appears in. All CASSI abbreviations are italicized and can be found on p. 288 of the ACS Style Guide.
  • Cite by the author’s last name, followed by their first and middle initials.
  • Use semicolons between the names of multiple authors.
  • Article titles are not required, but are often used.
  • In ACS journals, follow the capitalization of the original title.
  • In all other publications, capitalize the main words.
  • If specific page numbers are used, the abbreviation p or pp (without punctuation) is used and the page numbers follow.
