In addition to offering individual tutoring sessions and workshops, the Writing Center has created a number of handouts to support students in their writing. On this website, you will find information on citation (APA, MLA, CMS), along with handouts on how to summarize, paraphrase, and quote sources (135KB) , how to read scholarly journal articles (162KB) , and understanding key grammar terms (94KB) . For other handouts on writing and reading strategies, ESL issues, and specific assignment tips, visit our Writing Center on the second floor of the Zahnow Library.
The Writing Center can help faculty by providing tips on creating writing assignments (294KB) , offer ways to use the Writing Center for extra credit (157KB) , and give tips for working with English as Second Language (ESL) writers, specifically Arabic (344KB) and Chinese (331KB) students. For more information about strategies for working with ESL writers, visit universityeslwriters.weebly.com.
In addition, our “Teachers in the Center” program supports faculty who volunteer two hours a week as a writing tutor. In the past ten years, over 30 faculty from various departments have engaged in this university service, learning more about writing across our campus and helping students develop their writing skills.
