Faculty Nomination Information
The intent of the Tyner Prizes and the Tyner-Roethke Award in Student Poetry is to encourage and recognize excellence in classroom writing at SVSU. Three prizes of $100 each and a plaque may be awarded--one in fiction, one in nonfiction, and one in poetry.
Faculty members* in the College of Arts and Behavioral Science in the Humanities (i.e., Art, Communication, Theater, English, Modern Foreign Languages, Music, and Philosophy) may nominate any fiction, nonfiction, or poetry written for a current class or for a class held since Jan. 1, 2007. Nominations are not restricted to students whose majors are in that college. The nominated work may be revised before submission and is limited to 25 pages. Honors theses, Faculty Association Scholarship projects, and the like are not eligible for nomination.
To nominate student writing, complete the faculty nomination form and have the student complete the student submission form. Attach these forms to the student’s contest submission. Please make sure the student paper is free of name, course number, or distinguishing characteristics. Nominations must be submitted to Daniel Cook, English department, SW 350, by March 11, 2008.
A panel of three judges, two from English, and one from a department other than English, will read anonymous submissions and make determinations. Judges' decisions will be announced at the Writing Awards Reception April 9, 2007.
*Note: Students may also request that a teacher nominate their work.
