SVSU Music Department

SVSU offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and a music minor. Majors may select a general program or follow a music education curriculum which leads to K-12 music certification. If you are planning a career in music, you will appreciate our curriculum, which uses a practical contemporary approach to provide you with the background you'll need to succeed in your profession. In addition to classes for music majors and minors, the Department of Music provides an opportunity for students enrolled in other academic programs to participate in a variety of music classes and ensembles.

Faculty members in SVSU's Department of Music are highly experienced teachers who are also active performing musicians. Students in the music program work with our fine faculty in a modern center for the study of music and art. The Dorothy (Honey) and Ned Arbury Fine Arts Center has sound-proof practice modules, classrooms, faculty offices, and a computer and synthesizer laboratory used for art and music applications. The Fine Arts Center also houses the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Gallery.

At SVSU you have the opportunity to display your talent and have an enjoyable experience with our performing ensembles. you can enroll in any of the following (except Pep Band) for one hour of academic credit: Cardinal Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Collegium Musicum, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Pep Band.
