Programs of Study

You can meet with Admissions, current students in a program of study you're interested in, or with faculty or deans to get the inside scoop. Five colleges offer outstanding undergraduate programs.  A new entrepreneurship minor or certificate in entrepreneurship is available for all students, regardless of major.  Call Admissions @ 800.968.9500.

SVSU Colleges

  • Arts & Behavioral Sciences (liberal arts) offers popular majors like art, criminal justice, English, political science, sociology and theatre.  Pre-law* is popular, too.
  • Business & Management is accredited by the AACSB (only 25% of colleges worldwide). Majors in such areas as accounting, general business, international business, management, marketing.
  • Education offers undergraduate programs in elementary, secondary and special education.
  • Crystal M. Lange College of Health and Human Services offers B.S. in Nursing, B.S. in Health Science, R.N. to B.S.N., occupational therapy (five year program to Master of Science in O.T.), medical laboratory science.
  • Science, Engineering & Technology learning occurs in the newly expanded and state-of-the-art Pioneer Hall, featuring biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, and pre-med**.

* Law schools do not specify a particular major to complete.  Examples of majors that have served students well for preparation include accounting, communication, English, history, management and political science.

**SVSU offers all courses and advisement necessary to prepare for entrance into healthcare professions schools:

- dentistry- veterinary medicine

- pharmacy- physician assistant (P.A.)

- physical therapy (P.T.)

Student Life

Whether you're looking at SVSU as a commuter student or residential student, we have a great student life and lots of opportunities for leadership and fun.  You can take your pick of extracurricular activities like student association, intramural sports, special interest clubs, Greek organizations, and community service activities.

Student Housing

Freshman housing is either First Year Suites or Living Centers (but check out the future possibilities at University Village and Pine Grove apartments).

Our housing has been called the best in the state.  The compact campus makes it easy to get around.  You'll be close to classes, cafes and dining, recreation center, library and Student Life Center.

First Year Suites

  • Four bedrooms,  private bathroom, living room
  • Air conditioning, high speed data ports, cable TV, telephone service
  • Carpet throughout, refrigerator/freezer/microwave

Living Centers

  • Four or five bedroom air conditioned apartments furnished with sofa, cushioned chair, end table, dining room, entertainment center, beds, chests of drawers, study desks, study chairs.
  • Stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator, laundry room on each floor, private baths

Scholarships and Financial Aid

SVSU offers the lowest tuition of Michigan's state universities.  In addition, there's financial aid, work study programs, grants, loans and scholarships based on academics, financial need, leadership, and fine arts.

Competitive Academic Scholarships for graduating high school seniors

President's Scholarship

Covers tuition and selective mandatory fees for four years

  • Ranked first or second in graduating class & minimum 24 ACT composite score
  • 3.7 or higher cumulative high school GPA & minimum 28 ACT composite score

Dean's Scholarship

$3,000 per year for four years

  • 3.0 or higher cumulative high school GPA
  • Minimum 24 ACT composite score

University Foundation Scholarship.  Covers tuition and selective mandatory fees for four courses and $1000 to apply toward study abroad or a research project, plus an enhanced educational and extra-curricular experience.
