We have all heard the phrase, "if you see something, say something!" The University expects all community members to help create a safe, welcoming and respectful environment on campus. Any act involving sexual harassment, violence, coercion, and intimidation will not be tolerated. SVSU also strictly prohibits the offenses of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Any individual who believes they have witnessed or been subjected to conduct prohibited by the University’s Anti-Harassment/Discrimination Policy or Sexual Misconduct Policy by any University officer, employee, student, contractor, visitor, vendor or other person should report the inappropriate conduct to the University.
The STEP UP campaign began in 2015 to raise awareness of sexual assault prevention. Since then, the University has implemented “Bringing in, the Bystander Train the Trainer” program — a prevention program for establishing a community of responsibility for staff, faculty and students.
The University community is provided regular training regarding this policy as well as education related to the prevention and awareness of and response to Sexual Misconduct.
To date, 100% of SVSU's Athletic Department full-time, part-time and volunteers, coaches and AP staff have completed Tite IX, and Responsible Employee Training. All student athletics have participated in an in-person Title IX/Sexual Violence Prevention Training.
All freshman students are required to attend a 'Peer Theater" Performance led by Peer Health Educators, addressing topics such as sexual health, sexual assault, alcohol education, mental health and misconceptions of college life.
