Scholarship Audition Letter

Dear Student:

Thank you for your interest in the theatre program at Saginaw Valley State University. We encourage you to review the following information if you wish to consider auditioning for a scholarship in theatre or theatre education.

Scholarship funding for each student is individually determined. Awards may be used for tuition and fees and are renewable for three additional years upon meeting certain criteria set by the department. Enclosed you will find selection criteria..

To audition, you will need to prepare a comic and a dramatic monologue. One of these should be from a classical text and one from a contemporary play. The faculty will begin the auditions by listening to your two monologues. Following that, we will conduct a brief interview in order to learn more about you and your educational goals. If you are interested in technical theatre, you should bring a portfolio of work from shows you have been involved with at your high school or community theatre.

Anyone auditioning should include with his/her materials copies of transcripts and two letters of recommendation. One of your letters should be from an individual who can discuss your theatrical abilities and one should be from a person who can speak to your personal qualities.

Audition dates and times for 2008-2009 have been set as follows: March 21st, April 11th and May 2nd from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Simply call the office at (989) 964-7473 to reserve an audition date and time.

Thank you for your considering our program. I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Janet E. Rubin, Chair, Department of Theatre
