Master of Arts in Teaching - K-12 Literacy Specialist

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) K-12 Literacy Specialist degree is an ideal program for classroom teachers seeking a planned program for earning a professional teaching certificate and preparing to qualify for the Michigan Department of Education Reading Specialist Endorsement (BA).

Those who enroll in this program will research and implement current best practices in literacy education, develop skills for addressing the needs of all students, and build confidence as literacy leaders at the school, district and community level. Courses integrate theory with practice to provide multiple opportunities for working with peers while implementing instructional and assessment strategies in the classroom and in a clinical setting. (36 credits)

K-12 Literacy Specialist Program Requirements

 

Reading Endorsement

Candidates seeking the Reading Specialist Endorsement (K-12) are required by the Michigan Department of Education to complete the master's degree in its entirety and successfully complete the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification in Reading Specialist (BA) to meet state requirements for the endorsement.
