|You asked, we listened! SVSU has redesigned the professional learning program to offer a more convenient delivery for busy teachers. The Summer 2014 Professional Learning Series has been divided up into three sessions. You can choose one or all sessions for SVSU graduate credit. A special rate is being offered to those registering with a discount if you register prior to May 2, 2014. Registration closes on June 6, 2014.
Summer 2014 Professional Learning Series Courses
Session I “Hot Topics in Education”
Facilitated by Mrs. Carolyn Wierda, Interim Associate Dean, College of Education
This two and a half day session (15 hours) will focus on hot topics for educators:
Teacher Certification & Evaluation, School Funding, Common Core, Classroom
Technology, STEM, and Global Trends.
Session I Dates & Times
June 23 & 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; June 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Session II “Classroom Management for Effective Teaching & Learning”
Facilitated by Katrina Jackson, Classroom Teacher and Great Expectations Trainer
This two and a half day session (15 hours) will help local educators learn how to use verbal skills to create responsible, motivated and achieving students. The class will revolve around the Five Voices of Effective Teaching and an introduction to the eight expectations and 17 principles of “Great Expectations.”

June 25 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.; June 26 & 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Session III “Developing Effective Classroom Assessment”
Facilitated by Dr. James Gullen, Testing & Assessment Consultant, Macomb ISD
This 15 hour workshop will introduce participants to the steps to building an
effective classroom assessment to measure student growth. Participants will leave
with a readyto-use assessment for their classrooms in the fall.
