SVSU Mascot


CardinalIn 1969, the first athletic team of SVC played its first season as the SVC "Redbirds." The second season saw a new men's basketball coach, Eugene Hamilton, and a new mascot, the cardinal. In the spring of 1970, Robert Becker and Eugene Hamilton traveled with the golf team to Berea, Kentucky for a golf tournament. At the time, SVSC athletes wore maroon shirts.

SVSU Mascot

After seeing an actual cardinal, and purchasing cardinal paraphernalia from a local gift shop, Becker and Hamilton decided SVSU Mascotthe cardinal would make a worthy SVSC mascot. This logo was created to represent Cardinal athletics.
