Saginaw Valley State University is taking its "next steps" into
the future, focusing on increasing enrollment and staffing; improving
facilities, technology and curriculum; and raising funds to finance
the improvements.
The five-year
plan was developed by a task force of SVSU faculty, staff and friends
of the university and approved by the SVSU Board of Control. Highlights
include:
- An enrollment
growth rate of 3 percent per year, to reach a total of 10,000
students by 2005.
- An increase
in the number of full-time faculty at a pace consistent with enrollment.
- Facility
improvements including the completion of the second phase of University
Village, a student housing complex; reconfiguration of the Library
entrance and the expansion of SVSU's science facility; an expansion
of the Marshall Fredericks Sculpture Museum; "IF4," the label
given to a project that includes a new classroom and office building
for the College of Education and the further expansion of the
Zahnow Library; and a Student Center, a facility for the extracurricular
needs of students.
- Curriculum
improvements including the redevelopment of the General Education
program.
- Upgrading
technological capability in seven classrooms per year for each
of the next four years. -- Condensed from SVSU's 2001 State of
the University Address
