Energy Conservation

The following are just a few of the many ways you can save energy and reduce your carbon footprint.

  • Turn off lights when you are not using them.
  • Unplug your cell phone charger and other electronic devices when not in use; they can still draw energy as long as they are plugged in.
  • Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use. Also be sure that your sleep modes are set for 20 minutes on the monitor and 2 hours on the computer.
  • Use dishwashers and washing machines when they have full loads to save on both water and electricity.
  • Take shorter showers.
  • To better control temperatures in rooms, keep windows and doors closed.
  • Buy products made from recycled materials.
  • Buy items that can be re-used rather than thrown away.
  • Buy locally grown foods, this cuts down on the foods carbon footprint because they won't need to be packed and shipped as far and you're helping to keep local growers in business.
  • Avoid buying items that have a lot of excess packaging which will also decrease the carbon footprint of the product.
