When Refresh Doesn't Work

Click here to return to the Macintosh Netstorage Directions page.

Because Netstorage doesn't always display correctly on Macintosh computers in the default "Folder" view, you may have to perform the following steps to get the items shown below to appear.

The good news is that once you've done these steps on your computer, you won't have to do it again. You may, however, have to perform these steps on other Macintosh computers you use to access Netstorage. But again, you'll only have to perform these steps one time on the other computers.

If you can't resize the Internet Explorer window using these steps, you may be out of luck. Contact the ITS Support Center, 989-964-4225 or support@svsu.edu

Once you can see the "Text View" link towards the bottom of the window, above the "File Edit View Help" graphic,
return to the Macintosh NetStorage Directions page to continue with the directions by clicking Internet Explorer's Back button or clicking here.

These two options should be tried in the order they're listed. If the first one works, you don't have to perform the second.

  1. Changing Monitor Resolution.
  2. Resizing the Window. You have to have at least OS 8.1 installed. You can't use these directions to resize the window on previous versions of the Macintosh OS.

Changing Monitor Resolution.

Return to the top of the Page.
  1. Using the Control Strip. (OS 8.1 & above)
  2. Using the Monitors Control Panel.
1. Using the Control Strip.
(OS 8.1 & above)

Return to top of Changing Monitor Resolutions.
  1. If you have the Control Strip activated, drag it out, otherwise go to the directions below for using the Monitor Control Panel. The Control Strip will look something like this after it's pulled out:
  2. In the graphic above the pointer is already on the Monitor Resolution button. Click on it. You'll get a list of monitor resolutions available for your monitor. It will look something like this:

The dot indicates what your current monitor resolution is.

  3. In the list you may see resolutions up to 1024 x 768 or even higher, if your monitor will support them. The larger the number the smaller the text and icons will be and the larger you can make windows.

Select 1024 x 768, if it's available. Now click on the window resize button of the browser window. It's in the top right corner of the window, on the title bar area. It will look like this:
Your browser window will increase in size, lengthwise and widthwise.
Or, use the Window Size Box control in the bottom right of the window
to resize the window to any size you want.

  4. You should now be able to see the "Text View" link item at the bottom of the screen.

If the "Text View" link didn't appear when you clicked on the window resize button, try clicking the browser's "Refresh" button or try a higher resolution. If you don't have a higher resolution available or the higher resolution doesn't work either, go to the section below, Resizing the Window.

Return to the top of the Page.
  1. Go to the Control Panels. You do this by clicking on the Apple Menu in the upper left of your screen.
  2. You'll get a drop down menu, find the Control Panels item.
  3. When the Control Panels drop down list is displayed find "Monitors" and select it. Depending on what version Operating System you have, it may also be called "Monitors & Sound".
  4. You'll get a dialog window similar to below:
  5. If your Monitor Control Panel dialog window doesn't look like this, then click the Monitor button in the dialog window.
  6. To change the resolution just pick a resolution in the "Resolution" section in the right hand side of the window, start with 1024 x 768, by just clicking on it.
  7. Then close the Monitors Control Panel.
  8. Now click on the window resize button of the browser window. It's in the top right corner of the window, on the title bar area. It will look like this:
Your browser window will increase in size, lengthwise and widthwise.
Or, use the Window Size Box control in the bottom right of the window

Resizing the Window.

Return to the top of the Page.

This is a pain, but remember, once you have finally selected "Text View" you won't have to go through this again.

If changing the monitor resolution didn't work to show the "Text View" link then there is a work around.

This involves moving the browser window up almost off the range of the Desktop, then using the size box in the lower right of the window to increase the size of the window. Follow these steps:

First, move the window up almost off the Desktop by clicking on the thin grey bar that is the right hand border of the window. Click on an area that is towards the bottom of the window, like this:

Then, while holding the mouse button down, drag the window up until it is almost off of the Desktop; sort of like this:

Second, click on the size box at the bottom right corner of the window and drag the window down until you can see the "Text View" link.

You may have to repeat these steps a couple of times to increase the window to finally see the link.

After you have finally clicked on the "Text View" link, perform the steps above in reverse order in order to get your browser window shrunk back down to fit completely on your screen; shrink the window with the size box and then drag the window down with the bar.

This is a pain, but remember, once you have finally selected "Text View" you won't have to go through this again.
