-
The file list is non alphabetical. There's no way to sort it.
-
Do not click on files. The browser will attempt to display the file in it's browser window. To download, go to the download documentation below.
-
NetStorage issues a cookie. If you don't accept the cookie it won't let you in. But when you've been given a cookie, the next time you go to NetStorage without quitting Internet Explorer, it puts you right at the "M" drive web page without asking for a password.
-
You MUST logout AND quit Internet Explorer in order to get completely disconnected from NetStorage. This is true for both Macintosh and Windows.
-
If your Macintosh crashes, the next time you go to NetStorage, it'll let you right in without asking for a password. This is true for both Macintosh and Windows.
-
If you're not using OS X, you may need to increase the memory usage for Internet Explorer. First, try Internet Explorer without increasing the amount of memory it uses. If you find that you need to increase the amount of memory Internet Explorer uses, go to the Help System instructions for more information.
-
When downloading, Intenet Explorer may not know what type of file you are downloading and not assign a filetype to the file. This will prevent you from double clicking on the file to open it. To work around this, open the application you want to view the file with first. Then use the "Open..." command under the "File" menu to open the file. You can then use the "Save" or "Save As..." commands to save the file to give it the proper file type.
However, if the file has a file extension like ".doc" or ".txt" then you will be able to open it by double clicking on it.
-
File names with spaces will appear in all the dialogs, except for the download dialog, with "%20" in place of the space. Some Internet file handling programs don't display spaces as spaces but as a code, "%20", which to the computer storing the files, means "a space"; NetStorage is one of these programs.

Getting To Your "M" Drive Using NetStorage
|
Top
|
|
|
-
To access your "M" Drive from the web, you must run Internet Explorer. You can't use Netscape. No version of Netscape will work; not even the OS X versions.
-
Type "netstorage.svsu.edu" into the location line of Explorer.
-
You'll get a login dialog like this figure:
-
For the "User ID:", type in your email id, without the "@svsu.edu", and for "Password:" type in your email password.
-
The first time you open NetStorage you'll be presented with the following screen. If you don't see everything that is displayed in this graphic, make the window bigger or click the "Refresh" button in the browser. You may have to also click the "Refresh" button after increasing the size of the window.
You want to be able to click on the "Test View" link that will be at the bottom of the page. Do not click on the "Home@SVSUNET" link near the top of the page. It won't work on this page on Macintosh computers.
Using "Refresh" works for 99% of the display problems. However, when "Refresh" doesn't work you'll have to try some additional changes.
If the Refresh button didn't work, you'll have to try the directions When Refresh doesn't Work.
-
Once you've set your view to be the Text View, the following page will be displayed every time afterwards when you log in.
Ignore the items "Folder View", "New Folder...", "Upload...". These commands can't be used at this point. You can however, logout if you wish with the "Logout" item or with the Logout icon at the top of the page.
Also ignore the buttons "Delete...", "Rename...", "Copy", and "Move". These buttons can't be used here either.
-
Click on the "Home@SVSUNET" link.
You'll be presented with the page that has the link to your "M" drive. In the graphic it has my "M" drive "MJM"
Again ignore the items "Folder View", "New Folder...", "Upload..." and the buttons "Delete...", "Rename...", "Copy", and "Move". These commands can't be used at this point. You can however, logout if you wish with the "Logout" item. The "Parent Directory" item will just take you back one page, just as the "Back" button on your web browser will.
-
When you click your "M" drive name, in this case "MJM", you get a window that has all of the files you stored on your "M" drive.
Return to the top of the Page.

Accessing Your Files Using NetStorage
|
Top
|
|
|
|
The following is a description of the different elements of the Netstorage window, based on the graphic below.
|
-
At the very top of the window is the logout icon.
You can use this icon to logout from NetStorage at any time.
-
Below the logout icon and to the left is a folder labelled NetStorage.
Clicking on this only takes you back to the "Home@SVSUNET" page again. No sub-folders will be displayed below the NetStorage folder.
-
In the right hand side of the window, below the large title "NetStorage" you'll have the following menu items: Folder View, New Folder..., Uplaod..., Parent Directory, and Logout. Click here to go to a description of these menu items.
-
Below these menu items is a list of the files, if any, in your "M" drive.
Looking at the graphic, notice that files will have a "Download..." link to their right. Folders won't have a "Download..." link and will simply show zero for their size. Click on "Download..." to go to the description on how to download a file.
-
Now on the bottom of the window, if you have a lot of files you will have to scroll down, are four buttons: Delete..., Rename..., Copy, and Move.
These buttons act on a file or folder when you have it selected by clicking in the circle that's in front of every item in the list. For example, I've clicked in the circle in front of "Loaner items" in the graphic below:
Click here to go to a description of these menu items.
Return to the top of the Page.
