November 2016 Student of the Month

Written by Alantae Christian

Alantae Christian is a third year student at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) majoring in Communication. She attended high school at Chandler Park Academy (CPA) in Detroit, Michigan. Alantae chose SVSU because after visiting countless universities, SVSU was the only one that was willing to lend a helping hand and guide their students down the path of success.

After watching the movie Just Wright, Alantae thought she had her life planned out and she just knew that she would be the most successful athletic trainer in the world. However, after taking a few courses she realized being an athletic trainer wasn’t for her. She thought long about her passions when trying to declare a new major and she eventually realized the only thing she was really passionate about was music. Although, she could not perform vocally music wise, she found another thing related to music and now in 5 years, Alantae sees herself still in school working towards her M.A. in Mass Communication all while interning with one of the biggest radio stations for Hip Hop and R&B.

Alantae has experienced many things here on campus and through this program. Her best on-campus experience has to be between her receiving an internship working in the President’s Office or her having her own on campus radio show with Cardinal Radio. Her greatest experience as Public School Academy Scholar has got to be the end of the year Detroit Piston’s basketball game. After the game, Alantae and her fellow scholars got a chance to go on the court and shoot the basketball and overall the outing was a huge success.

If Alantae had to give advice to a future Cardinal, she would say to follow your dreams. “Live for you and only you. Don’t let anything take you away from becoming successful in life. Always remember that the key to success is YOU!”
