HIV Testing & Counseling

Did you know that 50% of new HIV infections in the United States occur among young people under the age of 25?

Did you know that 18,000 Michigan residents are living with HIV/AIDS, including 360 people in the Bay, Midland, and Saginaw area?

Did you know that 1 out 4 people infected with HIV don't know it because they haven't been tested?

If you have ever had unprotected sex, you should get tested. A quick oral swab, and you're all set!  HIV often resembles flu-like symptoms which can come and go.  It's important to know your status because there are effective, free treatments available that can help people with HIV/AIDS live longer, better quality lives.

BASIS/Sacred Heart, a service of Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center, will begin holding free, confidential HIV testing hours in the Student Counseling Center Office, C112 during certain times/dates. They will offer free HIV/STD prevention information and safer sex materials, including condoms.  Testing/counseling takes approximately 20 minutes. The testing device used is OraSure, a mouth swab which is 99.7% accurate.  Results are available in 7 to 10 business days and students can schedule an appointment to receive their results at the time of testing.
