Just for Faculty: Services

The STC offers tutoring for all software currently used in the open labs on campus (with the exception of math, engineering and programming).

Students visit the STC with questions about the following types of projects:

  • Creating presentations with PowerPoint
  • Creating web pages using KompoZer and Dreamweaver
  • Designing newsletters and brochures using Publisher and Indesign
  • Producing electronic portfolios
  • Editing digital video for use in presentations with Premiere, iMovie and Moviemaker
  • Scanning photos and documents
  • Uploading assignments to Vspace
  • Saving work to the M: drive
  • Assistnace with graphic software; Fireworks, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Designing interactive animations using Flash

To request tutoring software support:

The STC will provide tutoring support for special course-specific software on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the STC Coordinator prior to the semester when you will be using the software to discuss purchase, installation and training. The STC cannot guarantee support of special software without prior notification.

In addition, faculty members who require students to use technology to complete assignments may request in-class workshops for their students. The STC staff is available by reservation to deliver software training customized to support learning objectives, assignments and projects in virtually any discipline.

Students can attend Mini-Workshops covering a variety of topics:

All Mini-Workshops are held in the STC Mini-Lab located adjacent to the STC in Z-235. 

Software Development & Training

The Student Technology Center (library, 2nd fl.)and the The Instructional Technology Development Lab (C154) can assist in a variety of capacities to enhance your online teaching skills.

The software utilized for such projects are cross-platform and multi-browser compliant. For training or assistance, call the ITD Lab, 989-964-7471 or the Student Technology Center (989.964.2299) for the following:

  • Create, edit, and publish streaming video clips for use in the course
  • Create audio / video podcasts of course lecture content
  • Assist in digitization of traditional materials for web delivery
  • Learn to integrate images into various media for enhanced content / presentation
  • In-classroom workshops on using software to complete student projects (i.e.: PowerPoint, Publisher, Web pages, etc.)
  • Advanced word processing (mail merge, document templates, track changes, commenting)
  • Use spreadsheet technology and formulas (enhanced grade book presentation / display)
  • Create multimedia tutorials (and "screencasts") on specific topics / software)
  • Add voiceover audio to visual demonstrations of screen-based applications
