Q: What is the STC?

A: The Student Technology Center (STC) is a place you can go to get help with your software-related questions. For instance, if you have an assignment to create a presentation in PowerPoint and you’ve never done that before, you can come into the STC and get help. Or if you are really interested in making web pages but you want to learn how to design one using Flash, you can come in and someone will help you learn how.

Q: Who can use the STC?

A: The STC provides technology tutoring to all students of SVSU. The STC also offers in-class training services to faculty members who want to devote class time for software training.

Q: Where is the STC located?

A: The STC is located in Z214 on the 2nd floor of the Melvin J. Zahnow Library.

Q: How do I get help?

A: You have several options for meeting with a tutor:

Drop-in – The STC is on the 2nd floor of the library (Z214). Tutors are available to answer your technology questions. If you have a lengthy or complex question, please call ahead for an appointment.

Appointment – Call the STC at 989.964.2299 and make an appointment during operating hours for an individual consultation with a tutor. Appointments are recommended for students who prefer the privacy of an individual session, have lengthy or complex questions, or request individualized software training.

Q: What if I don’t see the software I use?

A: The STC offers tutoring for most of the software supported on campus. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, give us a call and let us know what you need.

Q: I’m a faculty member who is requiring my students to produce a project on the computer this semester. Will you come into my class to do software training?

A: Yes. In-class training is available over most of the software supported by the STC. The STC Staff will deliver software training during your regular class time or in a specially scheduled training session. Please call the STC Coordinator at 989.964.4036 to make a reservation.
