Internet Instruction is provided to serve Saginaw Valley State University’s students and faculty. The descriptions below are meant as a guide and can be altered. Please call us and we will be happy to customize a session to meet your specific needs.
Internet Instruction is available for all courses offered by Saginaw Valley State University. Faculty members are encouraged to take advantage of this program.
Internet Instruction provides an overview of the numerous Internet accessible resources available from the Melvin J. Zahnow Library. It also offers students strategies for successful library research with the Internet and familiarizes students with the Internet resources and services available to them.
Internet Instruction sessions take place in Zahnow Library’s state-of-the-art Instruction Lab (Z111). Multimedia technology is used in conjunction with hands-on learning to enhance the experience of students who take part in the sessions. Individual sessions take place in the room located behind the reference desk.
Internet Instruction is available at any time during the semester. At least one to two weeks advanced notice is required to schedule a session.
Internet Instruction is important for many reasons. It teaches students how to use the Internet effectively. Internet Instruction helps students learn research strategies to aid in the completion of course assignments.

Internet Instruction sessions are conducted in Zahnow Library’s brand new (Fall 2002), state-of-the-art Instruction Lab. The lab, housed in Zahnow Library (room Z111), is equipped with an Instructor Podium, 40 workstations and two networked printers. Z111 offers the same software that is available in other university open labs, including MS Office 2007, Adobe Acrobat, Internet Explorer and Netscape.
Multimedia technology is used in conjunction with hands-on learning to enhance the experience of students who take part in Internet Instruction Sessions. At the request of the instructor, students are able to research independently following the session.
When Z111 is not needed for internet or library instruction sessions, it serves as an open lab for students. Weekly schedules are posted on the doors of the lab. Student lab monitors are available to assist with basic software questions.
