The George Haley/SBWP Huron County Summer Writing Institute

This institute took place in summer 2016, August 1-5; information about this institute is provided below.  Please check back on this page for  information about upcoming Huron County/SBWP institutes/writing workshops.

K-12 education professionals interested in developing writers in their classroom were encouraged to apply for an opportunity to take part in this summer writing Institute, hosted by the Saginaw Bay Writing Project, August 1-5, 2016.

Applications were sought from teachers in all disciplines (art, math, science, language arts, physical education, social studies, music, etc.). Since the ways in which our students read and write across the subject areas are important and because Michigan Standards ask all teachers to integrate writing in their classrooms, we believed that all teachers could benefit from this workshop. 15 teachers in Huron County were accepted to participate; thanks to the generous support of George Haley, Bad Axe High School alumni, there was no cost for this institute. Each participant received:

  • a $200 stipend
  • professional resources that will be utilized during the institute
  • a complimentary lunch each day of the institute
  • an opportunity to obtain 25 free SCECHs or 2 credits from SVSU (fees for credits to be paid by the participant; estimated cost $1,050.00)

This workshop took place August 1-5, 2016, from 8:30 am – 3 pm at the Bad Axe High School, Bad Axe, Michigan, facilitated by SBWP Teacher-Leaders Amber White and Stephanie Anderson.
